WIDE ANGLE LENSES and the Bender View
View cameras generally have a pleated, acordian like bellows which allow
movement of the front and rear standards. When the lens used is of such
short focal length that the two standards are very close together the pleats
of the bellows are so compressed that movements are impossible. This is
typical of all view cameras, not just the Bender. At this point the
photographer must switch to the optional Bag Bellows, if one is available for
the camera. A bag bellows is, simply, a light tight bag, with no
pleats, that allows the front and rear standards room to move. On the Bender
4x5, lenses of 90mm or shorter require the use of the Bag Bellows Kit. It is
mounted on a set of frames identical to those the standard pleated bellows
are mounted on, and interchanges with the standard bellows easily and quickly.
