Lensboards
for the 8x10 View Camera
only $12.50

View camera lenses get mounted on lensboards, so you'll need one for each lens you own. Our 8x10 camera takes a 6-1/4" x 6-1/4" lensboard. When we designed our 8x10 we looked at all other 8x10s so we could make our lensboard size standard. Unfortunately, no one in the 8x10 world established a standard for lensboard sizes. There are no two alike! So, we made ours the size that seemed right, given the design of the camera.

Extra lensboards for your 8x10 are so cheap you can afford to have a few spares. These are blank lensboards, so you don't need to know what size your lens is first. Once you do have your lens, drilling the lensboard is simple. Just mark the center by drawing lines from corner to corner. Then, with the lensboard supported on a block of wood, drill a hole just slightly larger than the threaded portion of your lens (shutter, actually... that's the part that has the threads). The hole you drill will not be threaded. It only needs to be bigger than the threaded portion, and smaller than the retaining ring that screws on from the back side. It really isn't rocket science!

Some people are nervous about drilling the lensboard. Either they don't have access to a big enough drill bit (they could rent one at the local rental shop) or they just would rather not fool with it. You can take your lensboard to a machine shop and have them drill it for you. The cost is generally around $5 and, when you add that to the $7.50 lensboard price, you get a lensboard, pre-drilled for your lens, for only $12.50! That's still a fraction of the amount you'd spend anywhere else for a pre-drilled lensboard (Usually $25 - $50).
