Tools Needed
to Build the Bender View Camera Kits
front view
The tools needed to build a Bender View Camera Kit are common, everyday tools that most people already have. You don't need table saws, routers, or drill presses to complete this project. C-clamps are the most "exotic" item on the tool list. You may already have some of these and you can borrow additional C-Clamps from friends for a week or two. A complete list of tools you'll need is shown below:

  • Small Screw Driver (std.)
  • Medium Screw Driver (Phillips)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Square or Triangle
  • File (small)
  • Hand Drill (elec. or man.)
  • Drill Bits (1/16"; 3/32")
  • Flat board (about 8"x 8")
  • 3" C-Clamps
  • Wood Glue (Elmer's or Tightbond)
  • Contact Cement (not rubber cement)
  • Matte Black Paint (brush on type)
  • Finish or Sealer for the wood
  • Small scrap wood blocks
  • Sandpaper (Coarse, Medium, Fine)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Dust Mask (for sanding)
In addition to these tools and supplies you will need a flat work surface, preferably one where you can leave things out for a few weeks while you work on your camera. Most folks have other full time obligations and work on their camera evenings and weekends. While the total time to build the camera is around 25-30 hours, it usually takes several weeks by the time all is said and done.
